In this scenario, time isn't quite as tight—usually you've got 2-3 weeks, sometimes more. But the client is itchy. They want it done.
Cable railing is the go-to for this situation. It's sleek, modern, and doesn't block the view. But—and this is important—cable railing has a learning curve.
I'm not 100% sure how many first-time installers get stuck, but based on my experience, I'd say roughly 1 in 4 calls we get about cable railing is from someone who's midway through installation and realized they didn't buy enough tensioners or they're struggling with the cable cutting. Here's the problem: design-focused railing takes time. Glass panels need to be tempered and cut to spec (2-3 weeks minimum). Iron railing is forged or cast, which means custom fabrication runs 4-6 weeks even under rush conditions.

The counterintuitive suggestion: When time is tight, use glass with a simple aluminum frame. It mimics the sleek look of full-glass railing but uses stock aluminum extrusions. The trade-off is a slightly thicker frame, but you gain a week or two in production time.
How to Tell Which Scenario You're In
Here's a quick self-diagnostic. Answer these two questions honestly:
- What's the primary reason for needing new railing?
